An invitation into a relaxing and informal acupuncture community to explore the implications and embodiment of presence and its application to a sustainable acupuncture practice.
An invitation into a relaxing and informal acupuncture community to explore the implications and embodiment of presence and its application to a sustainable acupuncture practice.
Much of acupuncture training and CPD’s are mainly focused on the care of the person in front of the needle but what about the wellbeing of the person behind it?
Most healthcare practitioners I’ve worked with genuinely do want to help their patients feel better. The challenge however is, with the years of conditioning we’ve had, as soon as we start hearing the patient’s “complaint, challenge or condition” every fibre of our body is twitching with a desire to fix, solve and offer a solution to it. It’s Pavlovian and triggers our fight/flight/survival response.
This is the reason why many practitioners are working very hard to come up with decent treatment plans that just are not so impactful because they’re not that relevant, and why the real health challenges often go unaddressed.
Modern textbooks do not factor in the nuance of real life scenarios and ancient textbooks are unduly cryptic, so of course many practitioners are left perplexed and suffer needlessly from impostor syndrome. It does not need to be this way.
When patients start talking to you about the challenge at hand, what’s crucial to remember is that what they’re laying out for you is rarely the actual issue.
When we start jumping in to fix things, it can go pear-shaped in three ways: we are treating the wrong problem; we do the work that our patients should be doing to heal themselves; and the healing doesn’t happen as effectively if at all.
The Inner Acupuncturist seeks to reverse this so that we can work with ease and become more effective in supporting our patients on their healing journey.
Focusing only on the external activity of theory, techniques, application and even the marketing of acupuncture does not adequately help the practitioner to feel confident and comfortable about how to practice with efficacy and ease.
How do you deal with imposter syndrome? How do you manage your own and the clients’ expectations? Can you serve with compassion without burning out? Can you balance making a living and paying the bills with the need for self-care or family life?
On this day course we shall explore together how presence can resolve these conflicting factors, make it easier to truly hear what the client is looking for as well as selecting the appropriate treatments.
The day will begin with embodied practices of inner sensing and qigong accompanied by deep listening and heartfelt dialogue with fellow practitioners. We will explore the transformative power of presence in practice. In this way, we invite and address what is current, relevant and alive for those gathered on the day. There will also be time for demonstrating how presence infuses and informs the clinical encounter - from diagnosis, treatment and follow-up.
My deepest joy is accompanying people as they come home to themselves. When you are present to life as it is, you are home and the life you were meant to live makes itself visible.
Since 1998, I have practised as a physician of Western and then Far Eastern medicine. I owned and ran a thriving acupuncture practice in Central London until 2020. I’ve also served as a teacher of meditation in the Buddhist tradition. In 2017, I pioneered the first mentorship programme in Classical Acupuncture.
Through all this, I have come to see that the essence of healing and transformation is a correction of perception. I now work as a consultant, mentor and educator.
I offer workshops, retreats and in-depth training for facilitators. For healthcare professionals, including acupuncturists and medical doctors, I provide support in deepening your understanding of wholeness, discovering your unique expression and sharing that with the world.
As an educator, I regard education as where we learn about the wholeness of life. While academic excellence and clinical competence are necessary, education includes so much more than that. It is where teachers and students explore not only the outer world of knowledge, techniques, and theories but also the inner world - their own psychological, emotional and spiritual growth. Key to facilitating this inner evolution is deep presence.
I also deeply enjoy inspiring collaborations. I co-mentor with Darren Rose and Philip Weeks on their Daoist Acupuncture Apprenticeship. I am also part of the team facilitating on Lorie Dechar and Benjamin Fox’s year long mentorship, Practice at the Crossroads.
Are new to presence or wish to deepen into it
Have heard or read about presence but feel like you haven’t quite 'got it' yet or would like to deepen your understanding.
Have an intellectual grasp of the presence but have yet to experience its impact.
Would like to enjoy less stress and more ease in your life, work and relationships.
Discover how practicing with presence will deeply impact your clients.
Whether working with individuals or groups, my intention remains the same - to invite you into deep presence. This is where you can hear your connection to your wisdom and allow that to guide, heal and transform you. Through presence, you will come into ever deeper alignment with your authentic self, enabling you to live the life you were meant to live and expressing that in your own inimitable way.
Our focus will be on the process of presence not the content of acupuncture per se. As such, these immersive days are suitable for acupuncturists and any healthcare professional with an interest in developing a successful, easeful and sustainable practice.
You will gain insight into the way your thoughts and feelings work together, and find it easier to access a more settled and peaceful state of mind. You will learn how to live and practice with less stress, more ease and greater resilience.
Places are limited to 10 attendees so book early to avoid disappointment.
