A New Way of Listening

A new way of listening

Everything we need to know, and all the high impact skills and abilities necessary to make authentic change, already lie within. We simply need to learn how to access those inner resources and use them to leverage transformation.

On the program we will learn to tune into an inner space - a deeper feeling, before thoughts, images and concepts, within which all notions of limitations are divested and a new source of possibility and transformation come online.

The key skill in this context is learning to cultivate a deeper way of listening, that my friend Edwin has mapped out and called ‘Here-ing’. The premise being that you have to be here to truly hear

Here-ing is the missing piece in creating and deepening human relationships. It is a special type of listening and is different from the way we normally listen.

We normally listen with a busy and tense mind, in order to get our point across or to wait our turn to speak.

Here-ing is simply listening without anything on your mind. It will quieten your mind, making you more receptive to what the other person is really saying. It will automatically open up a quiet space within you where fresh new thinking can arise, and from which aligned and constructive responses will naturally ensue.

It will make your mind quieter, not noisier, more humbled, awed, and connected rather than tense and confused.

It will open you up to the possibility to sit with and see what comes through. And in that simplicity and stillness, you’ll more likely get insights into the nature of the human mind.

It also allows the other person to feel held and heard, and this, above all else, is what we all need. The right thing to say and do also come from Here-ing.

What are you listening out for?

A deeper feeling, a sense of peace,  aliveness, and energy.

So listen:

…with nothing on your mind

…as if you’re a piece of wood with ears

…as if you’re listening to your favourite piece of music

…for inspiration not information

…for a feeling

…with ease not to agree or disagree

…to see “how life works” not to answer “how shall I live?”

…to the description not for a prescription

...for clarity not confusion

Perhaps you might like to try out Here-ing in your next conversation.
