Making time every week for health & wellness

A good idea produces something that really works - and a scientific method makes something work over and over again.

When it comes to manipulating the external environment we’re pretty good at these in the West. But when it comes to happiness and well-being we have a hard time joining up the dots.

Everyone is trying to get happiness up and stress down, but it's hard to make either goal work - especially over and over again. And a big problem is how we relate to the mind.

Is the brain really the seat of consciousness as the western paradigm assumes? Or is the mind much more complex - with myriad untapped potentials and applications?

Ever since the philosopher Rene Descarte proposed a split between mind and matter 400 years ago, Western thinkers have been hampered in ways their Eastern counterparts have not.

Recognising the profound relationship between mind and matter, the contemplatives of the East developed practices that not only improve wellbeing but also have a demonstrable effect on physiology and brain function.

The latest neurobiological research reveals that meditation has the power to:

  • improve attention and high-level decision making (increased cortex)

  • reduce aggression & stress (a smaller amygdala)

  • foster empathy & compassion (lights up temporoparietal lobe)

Similar astounding effects are produced from the practice of Tai chi / Qi gong & yoga practice:

  • lower blood pressure

  • enhanced cognitive function

  • improvement of memory

  • lower inflammation (a major factor behind chronic degenerative diseases - such as diabetes, cancer, arthritis, dementia, autoimmunity etc)

In reality, meditation & qigong are meta-skills - foundational practices for health-promotion and life-enhancement. They’re powerful because they orient us from the state of ‘doing’ into a state of ‘Being’- thereby accessing our innate wellbeing and self-healing potential.

Having practiced meditation and qigong/tai chi for over 20 years, I’ve had the opportunity to experience these benefits firsthand. That’s why I’m passionate about bringing them to a wider audience - in a way that’s fun and accessible for all.

Each week, Sovereign Tea Time will offer bite-sized techniques to try out first hand and provide valuable insights to shift and deepen your understanding - of who you are, and what you’re truly capable of.

I’m really excited to share these simple, powerful, and impactful practices with you! So give yourself the gift of deeper health and wellness, and share a Sovereign Tea Time with me every Wednesday at 7pm, GMT from 8th September.
